American Chemistry Coun Looking for Director, Plastic Building & Construction at WASHINGTON, DC Full Time

Position Summary

The position is responsible for providing strategic, proactive leadership and professional management of the Plastics Division’s engagement on advocacy and outreach in the building and construction (B&C) sector. In that regard the position is responsible for developing, refining and delivering strategies to achieve strategic goals; developing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders; and organizing campaigns to impact relevant legislation, regulation, and model building codes. The position supports and manages the Division’s B&C member team, Foam Sheathing, and North American Modern Building Alliance. The B&C Director works closely with and ensures seamless coordination with other ACC and Plastics Division internal stakeholders who have interests in B&C issues. The position reports to the Senior Director, Durable Markets Advocacy.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Identifies and leads advocacy, communications, and relationship development on B&C issues for plastics.
• Leads ACC Plastics Division’s B&C Team, Foam Sheathing Committee, and North American Modern Building Alliance to achieve consensus relative to the development and implementation of strategic goals and objectives, including the development and management of the team budget.
• Coordinate and lead advocacy campaigns in support of laws, regulations, codes and policies that would increase the use of plastic in B&C, in particular for key end use markets that currently include pipe, insulation, and glazing.
• Implements appropriate governance structure for all groups named above consistent with ACC policy and association management best practices.
• Serves as spokesperson and issue expert for plastics in the building and construction market sector and establishes and maintains relationships with key external stakeholders.
• Manages the implementation of decision maker education and outreach strategy in the building and construction sector.
• Monitors and maintains a full understanding of key codes, standards and market activities affecting or potentially affecting Plastics Division members in the building and construction market sector.
• Monitors, analyzes and tracks emerging issues, developments and trends in the building and construction market sector and engages in advocacy issues.
• Identifies and constructively engages allies from among a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders in a variety of product value chains.
• Oversees outreach and education program for plastics in the B&C sector.
• Manages staff as well as additional vendors and contractors as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., science/technical areas, public policy, business management).
• 8 years policy/project/issue management experience, or 5 years advocacy or related experience with a business, trade, political or policy advocacy organization preferably in sustainability, energy, plastics, or the building & construction sector.
• Demonstrated leadership role in a successful state or federal legislative campaign that included coalition and consensus building, strategic communications, and grass roots/grass tops activations.
• Strong written and oral communications skills.
• Ability to cultivate, manage and maintain high quality stakeholder relationships.
• Ability to design and implement strategy and action plans.
• Demonstrated organizational as well as budget planning and management skills.
• Ability to travel domestically as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in relevant area.
• Association, consulting firm, law firm or government experience.
