Position Summary:
The primary focus of the position is to create and foster a safety culture that is both preventative and proactive. In conjunction with the culture, this position has a compliance component that is equally important is to ensure that Company’s facilities comply with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations. The position will provide full time Environmental Health and Safety support to the operations and will ensure that all practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The position will be responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and its permitting applications. Support the development and coordination of training programs in support with philosophy. This job is located in the Rockford Facility but may require travel on a quarterly basis to the Lancaster Plant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Review, modify, implement, and oversee approved Safety and Environmental policies and procedures that support compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. (i.e. EPA, OSHA, State EPA, Municipal). Maintain accurate records as required for these agencies.
-Plan, implement, and oversee approved Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
-Champion Safety awareness through education, training, program development, documentation and job specific support to the plant level.
-Develop a plan and process for providing required and desired training. Ensure completion of training in a compliant manner and validate effectiveness.
-Leads and mentors Safety Committee to establish strategies, create awareness, and implement safety programs in the respective facility. For example, but not limited to SDS, Forklifts, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Protection, Hazardous Materials, Material Handling and Storage, Electrical Safety-related work practices, -Bloodborne Pathogens, Confined Space, Lockout Tagout and Emergency Action Plan.
-Lead OSHA and Environmental compliance activities, identify issues, recommend and implement solutions, gather and present results and interact comfortably with operations/support functions and all levels of leadership and management.
-Support Human Resources in workman compensation and maintenance/tracking of OSHA injury/illness logs and other monthly reporting requirements including Safety metrics.
-Conduct audits to detect existing or potential Safety, Environmental, Fire, and Health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Develop and implement long term solutions that will eliminate subsequent problems.
-Ensures managers and employees are trained in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for machinery, equipment and chemicals.
-Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
-Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures are implemented.
-Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use internally as well as in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
-Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
-Oversees the administration of workers compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier and medical professionals to reduce employee lost time.
-Maintains safety files and records.
-Drives continuous improvement and streamlining of processes and procedures.
-Leads and manages special projects, which may be large or of a significant scale, as assigned.
-Maintains confidentiality of employment and workers compensation medical records.
-Capable of working flexible shifts on occasion and able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and material
-Ensures timely and accurate submission of air, water, chemical, and other reports required by local, state, and federal governmental compliance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education, Training & Experience, and other skills:
Required: Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline and/or at least 5-7 years of experience in environmental Health and Safety or related field in a manufacturing environment.
Membership in any of these organizations would be a plus: NASP (National Association of Safety Professionals) NESHTA (National Environmental Safety & Health Training Association), ASSE (American Society of Safety Engineers), or BCSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals).
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team. Global mindset and excellent communication skills to efficiently communicate across all levels in the organization.
Good time management and project management skills to organize and plan effectively in developing effective systems and processes.
