This Physician & Coding System Consultant – remote position is an exciting role supporting physician and coder workflow training. If you are adept at EHR functionality and able to provide technical support to end users to improve processes and data capture, this is for you!

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides expertise on Cerner and NextGen system application functionality and provides system education to physicians and coders. This position collaborates with informatics and IT on electronic solutions enhancements or software implementation. This position is responsible for educating physicians and coders in orders, documentation and messaging functionality. The incumbent must have significant knowledge about cross functional departments to serve as a liaison and provide relevant guidance or leadership. This position is responsible for and/or participates in creating functional documentation, participating or reviewing technical documentation, system configuration, creating training materials and facilitating or leading cross functional teams through projects and/or issues to achieve desired results.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Facilitates cross-functional teams and/or leads projects with regional or company-wide scope to implement system or policy changes, determine policies and manage process improvement and redesign. This may also include providing oversight, general work direction or leadership to individuals on team.
2. Performs analysis of customer needs. Manages and supports the identification and research of electronic solutions for BMG/BUMG and uses of current systems and applications, as well as upgraded systems and applications to meet customer needs.
3. Serves as a liaison and expert resource for application functional configuration or customers between internal and external resources. This may also include education, negotiation and troubleshooting for system, regional or business policy issues.
4. Maintains optimal operation of departmental application in partnership with IT or external software vendor, as appropriate. This may include leading the implementation, maintenance, testing and/or functional design.
5. Keeps current on industry and regulatory/compliance issues within assigned areas. Provides system and reporting consultation on these issues to customers.
6. Creates presentations and/or reports for management involving significant analysis of multiple or complex data sources.
7. Develops interrelationships among partners and customers who might have similar information needs and manages those relationships to assure effective solutions.
8. In some roles, this position may supervise professional staff. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current knowledge of business and/or healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration or related field, plus advanced training in Health Information Management requirements and systems and in adult learning principles.
In the acute care coding environment, requires a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) in an active status with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
In the ambulatory coding environment, requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), with RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification preferred.
Requires the knowledge typically acquired over three or more years of work experience in healthcare information management.
Must be well versed in regulatory requirements for medical record documentation, as well as Medical Staff Rules and Regulations where applicable.
Must have demonstrated education and training skills. Medical terminology and an understanding of the laws and regulations associated with medical records functions are required.
Must be able to function as part of a team, using effective interpersonal and instructional skills.
Must possess excellent written, verbal, and customer service skills, and have the ability to conduct educational needs analysis and to teach effectively to a wide range of comprehension levels.
Must be proficient in the use of common office and presentation software and have an advanced knowledge and experience with computer healthcare applications and hardware.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous training/teaching experience and customer service education experience preferred.
Creativity and knowledge of adult learning principals preferred.
