The Position:
The primary role of the Designer at Rule29 is to execute concepts from other creatives as well as develop creative concepts and execute creative direction on a wide range of projects. This position calls for an understanding and proficiency in print/web/digital/motion design and requires both production and job checking responsibilities for Rule29. This role is built on the foundation and assumption that you will work as an integral piece of the Rule29 team and adhere to Rule29’s philosophy of work and culture. This will require an openness and willingness to collaborate, concept, learn, and design according to both Rule29 and the client’s vision. This includes an ability to research, write, and problem solves with broad thinking skills. This role can be remote with preference to the areas around our offices in Geneva, IL.
Responsibilities:
Design: 80–90%
- Execute design solutions for various projects and clients
- Concept: brainstorm and work through the design process to understand the strategy behind each project and ideate ways to solve the problem
- Project management: work with Account Lead on clear communication to make sure designer, Account Lead, and client are on the same page
- Oversee any production partners such as web developers, photographers, animation team, etc.
- Provide design feedback to other team members
Marketing: 5–10%
- Create digital and print assets to showcase our work
- Post to social media
- Help concept ideas on how to market R29 better
Promote Culture: 5–10%
- Promote good office culture
- Collaborate with other designers
- Provide collaborative support for other members of the team
- Participate actively in your R29 Team assignment
Requirements:
- Solid with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
- Knowledgeable about front-end coding and major open source environments (HTML, CSS, WordPress)
- Knowledge of current web trends as well as UI/UX principles
- Experience with After Effects a plus
- Has excellent design, layout, and typography skills
- Has strong communications skills
- Is developing a business acumen
- Can prepare flawless preparation of design concepts for client meetings
- Has strong organizational skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, and high attention to detail
- Has the ability to communicate the business and/or cultural value of our creative work
- Understands how to prep and prepare files for coding
- Has experience establishing print specifications – preparing files, reviewing proofs, and communicating corrections
- Is personable, friendly, and down to earth
- Is a collaborative team player
- Is aligned with R29’s culture and philosophy
