JOB SUMMARY
Scholastic Book Fairs are wondrous in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books for themselves. Taking place in schools across the country and rooted in Scholastic’s greater mission to use the power of books for the betterment of all kids, Fairs bring entire communities together in resource givebacks for the whole school – while providing inspirational moments of joy that impact young readers for the rest of their lives.
Under the direction of the Design Director, the Designer will design and illustrate creative solutions from concept to completion to support Book Fairs Marketing and collateral for the In-Fair experience.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create original concepts and graphic solutions to solve complex marketing communication problems.
- Works with the Senior Art Director and Design Director to develop creative concepts and execute innovative design solutions in support of the in-Fair experience.
- Produces final, packaged electronic files, and works closely with the Production Designer to ensure accurate final files for delivery to print vendors
- Ensures company branding and image standards are adhered to.
- Aids in the training and on-boarding of Junior or freelance designers
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously.
- Actively participates in project kick-off meetings and briefings to identify project objectives.
- Remains current on the latest technological advances, trends, and styles in marketing to children and adults.
- Maintain confidentiality of themes, directions, pricing, vendors, tactics, strategies, and marketing materials
- Regular attendance in accordance with schedule.
- Actively participates in all meetings and on occasion conducts presentations or training.
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- Ability to meet deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously and be flexible to the ever-changing environment of a fast-pivoting company.
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design/arts or related discipline preferred.
- Must possess a strong portfolio of work.
- Excellent design, typography, and illustration skills
- Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Extensive knowledge of design and production processes, and has can deliver accurate, packaged design files.
- Strong sense of design, detail, and color.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to take direction, constructive criticism, and accept re-directs with a positive, productive attitude.
- Strong problem solving abilities and must be comfortable with starting something new from the ground up and working fluidly across a matrixed organization in the building phase.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 7+ years’ experience in a creative design role
