Position Summary
The Designer is primarily responsible for assisting in (but not limited to) various publication assignments, such as formatting text using InDesign templates, creating graphics & .pdf documents, designing advertisements, and working with Advertisers to correct technical issues with their advertising. As a member of the Production department, the Designer will be expected to meet the publication deadlines, collaborate with team members closely, share/give/receive constructive feedback from various sources and communicate with Advertisers professionally. This role will also provide support to the Senior Designers as needed and will report directly to the Production Manager, completing tasks as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Design
- Use InDesign to layout pages for magazine production
- Format articles using InDesign templates and styles
- Check in advertiser’s artwork to ensure it meets technical specifications
- Format images for print production and online digital use
- Production Support
- Research and find images for articles
- Create .pdf files from InDesign files to prepare for print
- Work with the Editorial to make corrections to article content using InCopy workflow
- Proof magazine content
- Ensure production tasks are completed to meet deadlines
- Provide and receive constructive feedback during design reviews
- Assist in creating documentation of various production processes
- Assist the senior designers as needed
- Contribute artwork concepts for feature article designs
- Keep up on new design software developments and processes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient in Adobe InDesign CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC & Adobe Acrobat CC
- Experience with photo retouching and adjustments
- Publication or multipage document production using InDesign
- Experience with the 4-color offset printing process
- Knowledge of HTML a plus
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design or Fine Arts required
- 1-3 years of professional design experience working in an ad agency or in-house design, or marketing department required
- 1+ year production experience with multipage documents such as magazines, newspapers, or corporate marketing materials required

Pay: $55,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
