Position Summary:
Director for the newly constituted division representing Education,English, Health and Exercise Science, Military Science, OutdoorAdventure Leadership, Spanish and American Sign Language programsreports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairsand works closely with the Associate Vice President for CurricularManagement. The Director provides leadership for the developmentand implementation of the Division’s mission within the scope ofthe larger University mission, and is responsible for theDivision’s effective operation.
The Division includes the following programs: Education, English,Health and Exercise Science, Military Science, Outdoor AdventureLeadership, Spanish and American Sign Language and is representedby approximately 1,000 graduate and undergraduate students, 40ongoing faculty, 10 staff, and approximately 50 contingent faculty.The Division also houses the Community Preschool at SOU, the Centerfor Holistic Education and the Oregon Writing Project. The Directorparticipates in setting the direction for the Division thatreflects a wide range of academic programs and their contributionsto the institution as well as allocating resources to support thegoals of the Division and evaluating progress towards those goals.The Director provides leadership and oversight in securingresources, consults with the Program Chairs, faculty andUniversity-wide administrative bodies. The Director activelyengages in community relations and represents the Division to bothinternal and external constituents.
Participates in the Provost’s Advisory Council (PAC).
This is a 1.0 FTE position; encouraged to teach one course peryear.
The successful candidate will have the ability to effectivelyrepresent divisional programs to the external stakeholders andcommunity partners including, but not limited to, professionallicensure and program accreditation bodies.

•Demonstrated ability to work with frequent changes in policies andprocedures,
sometimes under pressure and a fast-paced environment

•Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-sitefor occasional professional development.
•Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours tomeet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform workas needed on an emergency basis.
