Summary Job Description:
To implement the goals and objectives of each student’s Individual Educational Plan with appropriate instructional strategies and materials. To provide a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth in physical education with an emphasis on motor development, coordination, movement, and balance within the framework of individual and team sports skills.
Responsibilities:
Implement the goals and objectives for each student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) by promoting active learning within group lessons using a board-adopted curriculum that is aligned with the Common Core Standards.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that provide individualized and group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Maintain standards of student behavior through the implementation of the school’s token economy system and individual behavior plan when indicated to ensure a conducive climate.
Monitor pupil growth in physical education and maintain records of students’ progress in these areas through written reports. Plan class activities and lesson presentations that meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all pupils and are age-appropriate for the class.
Demonstrate professional competence and continuous improvement as designed in his/her PDP and through participation in professional growth opportunities.
Communicate with parents through conferences, progress reports, and daily parent communication forms regarding all aspects of their child’s participation in the PE education program.
Attend staff orientation prior to the beginning of the school year and Back to School Night.
Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
Attend and actively participate in monthly departmental meetings.
Attend and participate in all professional development and CPI/Ukeru training workshops.
Attend Case Reviews with the school psychiatrist, administrators, and clinicians when indicated by the individual needs of the students.
Participate in all team meetings that are indicated by the individual needs of the student.
Comply with all policies and procedures of Spectrum360.
Follow all recommendations of the administration.
Follow all directives of the Executive Director/CEO, Principal, and Assistant Principal, correcting areas relating to performance identified by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
New Jersey Certified Teacher of Health and Physical Education required.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods in sports skills and appropriate developmental instructional and group management procedures.
Strong team-building skills, and interpersonal and communication skills.
