The School of Engineering Medicine at Texas A&M Universityinvites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track facultyposition at the instructional assistant, associate, or professorlevel.
EnMed is the School of Engineering Medicine’s innovative medicaleducation program, developed in a partnership with the TexasA&M College of Engineering, Texas A&M College of Medicine,and Houston Methodist Hospital, to educate “physicianeers,” a newkind of physician who will create transformational technology tosolve health care’s greatest challenges. The EnMed medicaleducation program offers a blended engineering and medicinecurriculum with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. EnMedis the nation’s only program that allows graduates to receive boththe Master of Engineering and Doctor of Medicine degrees in fouryears. ENMED is located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center(TMC).
ENMED’s pre-clerkship curriculum utilizes evidence-based andstudent-centered strategies such as active learning,flipped-classroom, case-based and team-based learning. Candidates will participate in developing and delivering thepre-clerkship curriculum and working with other members of theENMED faculty to integrate medical training with instruction inapplying engineering principles toward advancing medical innovationand improving clinical medicine. Experience indevelopment and/or oversight of a pre-clinical medical schoolcurriculum, with preference for a flipped-classroom,active-learning approach, such as case and/or team-based learning,is preferred. In addition to instructional responsibilities,candidates will be expected to contribute to curricular developmentand development of innovative instructional methods, and fosteringcollaboration among the three ENMED partners.
Applicants considered will have experience teaching in thehealthcare related curriculum. Candidates must possess eithera medical degree or a doctorate in a closely relateddiscipline. Specific expertise is required in one or morecore pre-clerkship curricular topics, including: gross anatomy,pharmacology, integrative physiology, renal/genitourinary,histology, cardiovascular, metabolism/gastrointestinal/nutrition,biostatistics, and integument/musculoskeletal. An engineeringbackground is a plus.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to education that issynergistically aligned with the goals of ENMED.
