Health Education Specialist
Long Island City (Queens), NY
The Floating Hospital, a non-profit healthcare organization that has been providing services for over 150 years, is seeking a Health Education Specialist to provide services at our facility located in Long Island City, Queens. The Health Education Specialist will participate as a member of a group of professionals, dedicated to delivering comprehensive, holistic health education services to at-risk children, adolescents, and the community.
Essential duties include:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health education programs targeted towards patients, schools, community organizations, and/or selected groups
- Provide one-on-one health counseling to patients on health topics to promote behavior change
- Plan, organize, and implement health education workshops and trivia for adults, adolescents, and children. Topics may include, but are not limited to: depression, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, sexual health, stress, drug and alcohol prevention, diabetes, nutrition, fitness and exercise, self-esteem, safety, asthma, hygiene. These workshops may be conducted off-site at schools, shelters or community centers
- Create and/or enhance existing educational materials as needed
- Research and collect data for current and future health education programs
- Act as a resource in health education to our patients, TFH staff, community partners, etc.
- Be knowledgeable of current issues related to Health Education through professional publications and research
- Assume responsibility for professional development and job-related competency
- Attend in-service trainings and meetings as required by TFH; may serve on various committees as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Background and Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher education, experience conducting health education programming for people of all ages in various settings. Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office programs and are proficient in research; must have the ability to provide health education presentations to various groups and community organizations; possess group facilitation and group dynamic skills; possess excellent written, oral communication, and strong public speaking skills. Bilingual preferred, but not required; possess organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills; strong reporting and analytical background and the ability to multi-task, while working well in a team-oriented environment.
