2. Duties and Responsibilities:
a) Participate in pre-service training, in-service training and other mandatory training requirements to meet EEC and Head Start requirements;
b) Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the Head Start Performance Standards and the component plans; and thorough knowledge and application of Developmentally Appropriate Practices;
c) Act as Lead Teacher in the absence of such; (if applicable)
d) In conjunction with the Lead or co-teacher, guide and facilitate activities of the children, including: curriculum implementation, daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom;
e) Maintain a neat, organized learning environment that is welcoming and high functioning;
f) Cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children;
g) Cooperate with the Lead or co-Teacher to implement comprehensive system of screenings and assessment for each child, including but not limited to, ESIs, observations, examples of the child’s work, and developmental assessment using Teaching Strategies Gold;
h) Collaborate with Lead or co-Teacher to meet home visit and parent conference mandated requirements;
i) Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices;
j) Meet with coordinators to exchange information pertinent to the identification and services of children with disabilities as requested;
k) Meet with mental health staff to discuss mental health needs of children as requested;
l) Guide children’s acquisition of social skills
m) Attend monthly staff meetings, BOD and Policy Council meetings and family activities as requested;
n) Works collaborate lively with the Teacher Assistant and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities;
o) Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
p) Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe and free from hazards;
q) Assist in conducting the daily health and environment check list;
r) Assist in implementing children’s IEP (Individual Education Plan) or IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) seeking clarification for any aspects that are not well understood;
s) Attend IEP and IFSP meetings as requested
t) Assist in orienting volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed;
u) Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, portfolio forms, assessment, time sheets, meal reports etc.;
v) Actively assist in transition activities;
w) Distribute newsletters, flyers, and other information to families as instructed by all component managers;
x) Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher Professional Development Plan;
y) Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained;
z) Actively participate in the State of Massachusetts QRIS and PQ Registry; and
aa) Perform other duties, as may be required.
The Teacher reports directly to the Early Childhood Education Manager
At the end of the 6 month probationary period, a written evaluation will be conducted by Early Childhood Education Manager. Annual performance evaluations will be conducted once per year in accordance with the program’s overall evaluation schedule.

Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. Massachusetts EEC Teacher Preschool certified. Knowledge and experience of developmentally appropriate practices with 1-2 years’ minimum experience working with preschool children.
Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Hourly pay rate range is $15.56 – $26.09 depending on degree & experience.
40 hours per week, minimum of 46 weeks per year, non-exempt, full-time position with great benefits.
