Overview
The Graphic Designer develops and manages an evolving inventory of visual assets that support the marketing, public relations, and communication needs of the college, its departments, research centers, and sub units while complying with the university’s brand standards. Using the principles of design, workflow best practices, and appropriate tools, the designer develops illustrations, layouts, and various graphical content to support multiple communication channels, including web, social media, research proposals, recruiting materials, annual reports, physical signage, promotional materials, alumni communications, philanthropic initiatives, and more.
Responsibilities
- PROMOTIONAL: Develop digital and physical materials that promote the College of Engineerings academic and research programs to prospective students, faculty, and audiences both on and off campus.
- EDITORIAL: Manage, develop, and improve, the design and display of editorial content that tells the story of the College of Engineering. The designer will be responsible for the artistic direction of the Utah State Engineer alumni magazine, various annual reports, digital signage, research publications, social media campaigns, and more.
- INTERNAL COMMUNICATION: Manage, develop, and improve visual content used in email newsletters, reports, physical signage, displays, internal documents, and student engagement materials.
- SPECIAL EVENTS: Develop graphics and signage materials that enhance user experience and promote brand identity at special events, such as alumni gatherings, tech expos, student events, media events, Engineering State youth summer camp, Research Week, and Engineers Week.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in graphic design, art, or related discipline
- Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Knowledge about design principles such as type, contrast, alignment, and proximity
- Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment
- Ability to analyze technical information to create interpretive illustrations
- Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements
- Ability to analyze and interpret user graphic requirements
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to complete multiple assignments and meet deadlines
